Dominion Dealer Solutions Employee Recounts Experience as Translator During OpSail 2012

Last weekend, OpSail 2012 took place in Norfolk, Virginia. The event brought many sailboats from around the world to our port. Our very own Andrea Buhyoff volunteered as a translator for the Brazilian Navy while they were here in Norfolk. We asked her to share this amazing experience and favorite photos with us. Here’s what she had to say: Where do I begin? My involvement with OpSail 2012 as a volunteer Portuguese language translator in support of the Brazilian Navy was the experience of a lifetime! I met many wonderful people and had the opportunity to sail, as a Dominion Enterprises’ representative, on the Cisne Branco (The White Swan), which was the Brazilian Navy's "Tall Ship" during Friday's "Parade of Sails" into the Norfolk harbor in Virginia. I found it very rewarding to be able to help the Brazilian crew members with what we would consider simple tasks, such as: shopping, telephone cards, pharmacy items, transportation, and dining. These are quite difficult things for someone who can not speak our language so they were extremely grateful for my help and assistance! For me, being able to help my fellow countrymen in this capacity as an interpreter was a wonderful experience and made me feel extremely proud. I also was able to conduct private tours of the Cisne Branco for the Cape Henry Rotary Club, church organizations and for private citizens. The crew of the Cisne Branco was very accommodating, serving wonderful food and drinks while we sailed and explaining many of their duties to those on board. All in all, I wouldn't have traded this chance to sail with them for anything!
