Dominion Joins Automotive Industry Leaders at AN Marketing Event |
|
Last week, I had the pleasure and privilege of attending the 2012 Automotive News Marketing Seminar in Los Angeles, CA. This was my first Automotive News- hosted event and I have to say, it was First Class. Held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel (famous for being used in the movie, "True Lies"), this sold-out event had over 1,000 attendees including: multiple OEMs, publishers, NADA, Facebook, Google, and one very excited Dominion Dealer Solutions' employee! Not really knowing what to expect, I walked into a massive networking reception and had a chance to speak with some great new OEM, publishing and ad agency representatives, as well as reconnect with friends from NADA and JDPower. It didn't take long to be very impressed with the level of attendees, but Automotive News was just getting started. They had four powerhouse presentations planned: John Abel, Director of Marketing, Mazda North American Operations, Michael Accavitti, VP of Automotive Marketing, American Honda Motor Co., Chris Perry, Global Chevrolet Marketing Vice President, General Motors, and Steve Shannon, VP of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. A few noteworthy items: 1. Two of the speakers ran their presentations off of iPads and two used good old-fashioned paper. 2. All presenters spoke about overcoming obstacles in trying to reach the Millennial customer. Mazda, GM and Hyundai spoke directly to changing their respective brand/image to meet this need. 3. GM announced their decision to withdraw all of their Facebook paid advertising (more on that in the next blog). The Facebook table in the room had no comment. For those of you who were unable to attend this event, the presentations can be viewed here: (http://www.autonews.com/Assets/html/12_anms/presentations.html). The panel discussion and audience Q&A is not online, though that was arguably one of the best parts of the seminar. I found the OEM brand discussions at this event extremely eye-opening. It's interesting to see how these OEMs view each other, their consumers, and the automotive dealer body at large. Many, many thanks to Jason, Dave, Libby and the rest of the Automotive News team for hosting this great event and inviting me to tag along. It was well-organized and well-attended. Can't wait to see everyone at the next AN Marketing Seminar! ![]() ![]() |
